The GYM Foundation conducted one day workshop on “Learning Math through Inquiry” for students of Grade 6,7 and 8 in Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Thiruparaithurai, Tiruchirappalli.
Grade 6 students explored Fractions through paper strips. They were introduced the technique and process of asking questions and making observations to compare fractions. It was heart warming to see their participation enthusiastically.
Grade 7 students explored Shapes and Geometry proofs through “Paper folding”. All the students jumped in to make their own Triangles and understood the concepts like Area, angle properties etc.
Grade 8 students had a deep dive into the world of Algebra through a game and Math modelling activity. They were also introduced to applications of Algebra in real life situations. The session concluded with the Mathematical modelling we did on “Sales plan for cracker business” using MS Excel. Students got a good idea on various aspects of Algebra through the modelling activity.
It was a day packed with interesting discussions and observations through asking questions!
