Mathematical Modelling
Mathematical modelling summer camp provided an unique opportunity for young students to work on an open ended real life situation/problem and share a solution through Mathematical modelling. The Math Modelling process involved asking purposeful questions, make realistic assumptions, identify and apply Math concepts needed to come up with solutions. One of the striking aspect of Math modelling is each student’s solution can be unique and there is no one correct solution!
How did the previous camp happen?
Educator shared a poster prompt => Students worked on Math Modelling Google document template => Students create presentation based on their Google doc work.
Check out the wonderful presentations created by students and their reflection & feedback about the camp in the section below!
Students are taught many Math concepts and learnt many Math formulae. They may wonder where these concepts and formulae are applied in real life! Are there some situations where they are used to get solutions?
Mathematical modelling summer camp introduces students to real life scenarios and problems where Math concepts and formulae are applied.
Workshop focuses on,
1. Introduction of Mathematical Modelling and its process.
2. Some real life problems and situations where modelling is used.
3. Sharing simple, moderate and challenging real life situations to be solved using Mathematical modelling process.
4. Making students to build their own Mathematical model and present their solution.
2. Motivate students to learn more
3. Create interest and curiosity
5. Collect and Analyze data

Real life open-ended situation: “Plan for water availability at a community event”
Math modelling process involves asking below questions, following the modelling process, applying math concepts and modelling a solution.
* What information is needed, how to get it?
* How to make a good, informed estimate?
* What math concepts can be used to arrive at solutions?
* How to model the problem situation and apply math concepts?
Workshop is intended for kids studying in Class 7 to 9
Workshop dates: May 12th to May 16th (5 days)
Camp time: 2 PM – 3.30 PM IST
Fee: Rs.1000
