STEPS in MATH program incorporates “Inquiry Based Learning” and “Guided discovery Learning” methodologies for Math learning. Research indicates that children learn at their best when they get the feel of finding out something on their own. This will nurture their curiosity while at the same time enhance their interest in learning Math.
Kids are encouraged to frame questions and communicate that will help them understand the concepts better.
STEPS in MATH program focuses on two key aspects of problem solving namely Understand and Apply. The program focuses on
- Math concept clarity
- Connect math concepts with real life examples and scenarios
- Train Mathematical thinking & problem solving through 4 main steps:
Understand, Plan, Execute and Reflect. - Provide rich activities with emphasis on Skill based learning which improves critical thinking, systematic working, visualizing, modelling, communication, analytical & logical skills from young age.
- Provide an environment for peer learning that encourages co-operate instead of compete.
- The program includes lots of games, activities, puzzles and hands-on work which gives an active Math learning experience for kids. Active learning makes the learning process enjoyable.
- The learning environment and approach makes them overcome “Fear of unknown” and “Fear of failure” and transforms them to “Let me do it” and “Challenging work expands my thinking”

1. Can students from all school boards participate in STEPS in MATH program?
Yes, students from different boards like State, CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, IB can participate. The STEPS in MATH curriculum focuses on providing a strong Math concept foundation and problem solving skills which will prepare them to become independent Math thinker and problem solver.
2. Will the program cover the Math concepts taught in school?
The program is designed to cover only one or two Math concepts during one term which is 4 months. The goal of the program is to instill thinking, reasoning & problem solving skills. Therefore sufficient time is given for students to get solid foundation & skills rather to cover many Math concepts.
3. Will the program or educator, help the student to practice Math concepts taught in school?
The program has a designed curriculum to instill Math skills and therefore will not function like a tuition. However, doubts from the student are welcomed and can be discussed and provided clarity outside class sessions.
4. How long will be each session?
There will be one hour class per week and the program runs in two terms (July – October and November – February). The students are expected to spend 30 mins per week to work on few thought provoking activities.
